Credits & billing
The shared credit pool and crypto top-ups.
Everything on Modus runs on credits: one pool that covers prompts across the chapters, builds, audits, and every Gateway call. Buy credits as you go, or subscribe to a plan that grants a recurring allowance on top of what you top up. Purchased credits never expire; a plan's monthly allowance lasts its billing period.

Buying credits
Buy credits whenever you need them, paying with USDT, USDC, or a native coin (ETH, MATIC, BNB) on the major EVM networks: Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, BNB Chain — and USDC on Arc, where USDC is the network's own gas token. Solana is supported too, paying with SOL or USDC.
Pay by card (Stripe) or with an onchain transfer signed from your own wallet; get there via the credits chip in the header or Billing in Settings. Plans can be paid by card too. BTC and Tron transfers are on the way.
One credit is one dollar of usage, the same unit the header shows. Any amount from $10 to $10,000 works, and a top-up is face value: $50 buys 50 credits.
Bonus credits come from a plan, not from the size of the top-up. On a paid plan, every top-up earns your tier's bonus on top of what you pay:

What a prompt costs
Usage draws on credits by what you actually consume. How much depends on:
- The model in use, picked per message from the composer's model picker. The catalog spans multiple providers and price tiers, including Modus's own call signs for its top-end models — Fable (Anthropic's most capable model) and Astra (OpenAI's flagship, with Sol as its previous flagship still available). Pricier, more capable models draw more credits per turn than the lighter, faster ones.
- Whether code compiles, deploys, or contracts are audited
- Whether tools (web search, Gateway calls, MCP servers) get called
Your remaining credits show in the header, and every Gateway response reports its exact cost in a response header.
Spend controls
Every Gateway key you mint can carry a monthly spend cap: a hard ceiling, not an alert, so a key you ship inside a deployed app can never outspend the budget you gave it. For visibility, the Usage page in Settings breaks consumption down by date, project, and model, with a CSV export.
Taking costs off the bill
Bring your own upstream key for a Gateway provider (your own Alchemy account, say) and those calls bill at zero credits; you pay the provider directly on your own plan. See Providers & credits.
Earning credits
Buying isn't the only way in: Bounties pays credits for completing tasks, from social shares to on-chain actions.
